Danger
DANGER
danger
Risk of electric shock due to water or a water solution which is present in this product. Avoid working on or near energized equipment with wet hands or when spilled water is present.

Attention
Do not leave multiple trays open at the same time, as it may increase the risk of over-tilting or instability.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure the following tools are available to perform the replacement:
  • Two 30L containers (one labeled with “Fresh” and one labeled with Waste") with integrated hose mounts
  • Air compressor
  • Approved coolant: PG25, NALCO® TCS101, or HPCCL2000 (Deionized water premixed with a compatible antimicrobial agent)
  • Cordless transfer pump
  • Lift tool
  • Liquid cooling service kit includes below:
    • Draining kit: Connects the tray to the drainage/coolant container.
    • Air input kit: Connects the air compressor to the tray
    • Filler kit: Connects the pump to the tray
    • Coolant source kit: Connects the coolant/fresh deionized water container to the pump.
    • Nitrogen release kit with gauge: Connects the tray to the drainage container.
  • Phillips #2 bit
  • Spill kit
  • Torque screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Place the compute tray on a clean work surface.
  2. (Optional) Release Nitrogen pressure from the new compute tray.
    1. Ensure the ball valve on the Nitrogen release kit is closed. Then, remove the left quick connector cap and attach the kit. Check the gauge to confirm the pressure.
    2. Place the opposite end of the Nitrogen release kit into the drainage container.
    3. Ensure the pressure is stable, and then gradually open the ball valve to perform the pressure release.

  3. Fill the compute tray with coolant.
    1. Ensure the ball valve on the draining kit is closed. Then, remove the left quick connector cap and attach the kit.
    2. Place the exhaust end of the draining kit into the coolant container.
    3. Gradually open the open the ball valve on the draining kit to ensure no pressure or liquid remains in the tray.
    4. Install the silicon washers on the ends of filler kit and coolant source kit that connect to the cordless transfer pump.
    5. Remove the right quick connector cap and attach the filler kit.
    6. Connect the opposite end of the filler kit to the pump.
    7. Place the coolant source kit into the coolant container.
    8. Connect the opposite end of the coolant source kit to the pump.

    9. Power on the pump to start filling with coolant until no air bubbles are visible in the coolant container.
    10. Open and close the ball valve on the draining kit three to five times to vent the air from the water loop in the tray.
    11. Keep the ball valve closed for approximately two seconds to build a small amount of pressure, and then open the ball valve. Repeat at ten-second intervals.
    12. Turn off the pump and disconnect the hoses from the pump and the tray, ensuring all liquid in the hoses is drained.
  4. Remove the inner rails from the intermediate rails.
    1. Slide the inner rail out until it stops.
    2. Press the white latch.
    3. Remove the inner rail completely from the rack.
    4. Repeat for the other inner rail.

  5. Install the inner rails to the compute tray.
    1. Align the mounting holes on the inner rail with the corresponding mounting pins on the side of the tray.
    2. Push the inner rail as shown until the mounting pins on the tray are locked in place.
    3. Set the torque screwdriver to 13 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the screw to secure the inner rail to the tray.
    4. Repeat for the other inner rail.

  6. Remove the following components:
    • Cable cartridge: dust covers
    • Compute tray: NVLink connector covers and quick connector caps

    Attention
If any connectors are damaged, missing, or contain debris, do not use the compute tray. If defects are found, replace the unit with a new one.
  7. Install the compute tray.
    1. Ensure the handles on the front of the tray are in the open position. Then, align the inner rails with the intermediate rails.
    2. Slide the tray all the way into the rack.
    3. Close the handles to lock the tray in place.

After you finish

  1. Reconnect any previously removed cables.
  2. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
