Install a ConnectX-7 NDR 200 adapter riser assembly

Use this information to install a ConnectX-7 NDR 200 adapter riser assembly.

About this task

Required tools
  • ConnectX-7 200 interface plate pads

  • Thermal grease

Important
Gap pad, putty pad, and PCM replacement guidelines
  • For gap pad, putty pad, and PCM locations and instruction, see Gap pad, putty pad, and PCM identification and location.

  • Before replacing the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM, gently clean the surface with an alcohol cleaning pad.

  • Hold the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM carefully to avoid deformation. Make sure no screw hole or opening is blocked by the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM material.

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

Procedure

Note

SC777 V4 system uses cabled-riser cage, which means that the cable is soldered to the riser card. There are two types of cabled-riser cages, one with 390 mm cable, the other with 490 mm cable. When installing ConnectX-7 200 or ConnectX-7 400 in PCIe slot 1, make sure to use the cabled-riser cage with 490 mm cable.

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the tray cover. See Remove the tray cover.
    2. Remove the cross bar. See Remove the cross bar.
  2. If the interface plate was removed, install the interface plate to the water loop.
    1. With an alcohol cleaning pad, gently clean off the thermal grease from the bottom side of the interface plate.

    2. Apply the thermal grease to the bottom side of the interface plate. Use a syringe to form four uniformly spaced dots, while each dot consists of about 0.2 ml of thermal grease. Follow the illustration below for thermal grease dots placement.

    3. Align the interface plate with the screw holes on the water loop; then, place the interface plate on the water loop
    4. Install five PH1 screws to secure the interface plate.
      Note

      For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

  3. With an alcohol cleaning pad, gently clean the putty pads from the interface plate. Then, attach the putty pad to the interface plate. Make sure to follow Gap pad/putty pad replacement guidelines.

  4. Install the ConnectX-7 NDR 200 riser assembly.
    1. Install the ConnectX-7 riser assembly to the water loop.
    2. Install two T10 screws to screw holes marked with B on the riser cage.
    3. Fasten the PH 1 captive screw to secure the riser assembly to the water loop.
    Note
    • ConnectX-7 NDR 200 adapter screw holes are marked as B.

    • For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

  5. Install the support bracket to the ConnectX-7 NDR 200 riser assembly.
    1. Install the support bracket to the ConnectX-7 NDR 200 riser assembly.
    2. Install two screws to secure the support bracket to the tray.

After you finish
  1. Complete cable routing. See Internal cable routing.

  2. Install the cross bar. See Install the cross bar.

  3. Install the tray cover. See Install the tray cover.

  4. Install the tray into the enclosure. See Install a tray in the enclosure.

  5. Connect all required external cables to the solution.
    Note
    Use extra force to connect QSFP cables to the solution.
  6. Check the power LED on each node to make sure it changes from fast blink to slow blink to indicate all nodes are ready to be powered on.
