Install E3.S 1T dual front drive

Use this information to install E3.S 1T dual front drives.

About this task

Required tools
  • E3.S mid heat sink

  • E3.S top heat sink

  • E3.S drive cage bottom pad (3x)

Attention
Important
Gap pad, putty pad, and PCM replacement guidelines
  • For gap pad, putty pad, and PCM locations and instruction, see Gap pad, putty pad, and PCM identification and location.

  • Before replacing the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM, gently clean the surface with an alcohol cleaning pad.

  • Hold the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM carefully to avoid deformation. Make sure no screw hole or opening is blocked by the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM material.

Procedure

Attention

Installation procedures listed in this section do NOT apply to drive 2/3, drive 4/5, drive 6/7, or drive 8/9 in Dual CX8 mezzanine module configuration. To install drives in said configuration, refer to Install E3.S 1T dual front drive (Drive 2/3 to 8/9 in Dual CX8 Configuration).

  1. Install the first E3.S drive to the drive cage.

  2. Install four screws to secure the drive to the drive cage.

  3. Keep the heat sink at an angle, and align the tabs on the heat sink with the slots on drive cage. Rotate the heat sink and place it on the drive cage.
    Note
    Make sure to replace the putty pads from the top side and the bottom side of the heat sink. Follow instructions in Gap pad/putty pad replacement guidelines.

  4. Install the second E3.S drive to the drive cage.

  5. Keep the heat sink at an angle, and align the tabs on the heat sink with the slots on drive cage. Rotate the heat sink and place it on the drive cage.
    Note
    Make sure to replace the putty pad from the bottom side of the heat sink. Follow instructions in Gap pad/putty pad replacement guidelines.

  6. Connect the drive cables to the two E3.S drives.

  7. Install two PH1 screws to secure the drive cage bezel to the drive cage.
    Note

    For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

  8. Install four screws to secure the drive to the drive cage.

  9. Install two PH 1 screws to secure the side holder to the drive cage.
    Note

    For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

After you finish
  1. Install the E3.S drive cage. See Install an E3.S drive cage assembly.

  2. Complete cable routing. See Internal cable routing.

  3. Install the cross bar. See Install the cross bar.

  4. Install the tray cover. See Install the tray cover.

  5. Install the tray into the enclosure. See Install a tray in the enclosure.

  6. Connect all required external cables to the solution.
    Note
    Use extra force to connect QSFP cables to the solution.
  7. Check the power LED on each node to make sure it changes from fast blink to slow blink to indicate all nodes are ready to be powered on.
