Install the OSFP module

Use this information to install the OSFP module.

About this task

Required tools
  • OSFP interface plate pads

  • Thermal grease

Important
Gap pad, putty pad, and PCM replacement guidelines
  • For gap pad, putty pad, and PCM locations and instruction, see Gap pad, putty pad, and PCM identification and location.

  • Before replacing the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM, gently clean the surface with an alcohol cleaning pad.

  • Hold the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM carefully to avoid deformation. Make sure no screw hole or opening is blocked by the gap pad, putty pad, or PCM material.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. Make sure the ConnectX-8 mezzanine module is installed. See Install a CX8 mezzanine module.
  2. Connect the two OSFP module power cables. Connect power cable labeled as P1 to Power connector 1 on the OSFP module, and P2 to Power connector 2.

  3. Install the OSFP module cold plate to the water loop.
    1. With an alcohol cleaning pad, gently clean off the thermal grease from the bottom side of the interface plate.

    2. Apply the thermal grease to the bottom side of the interface plate. Use a syringe to form one dot that consists of about 0.5 ml of thermal grease, and another dot consists of about 0.2 ml of thermal grease. Follow the illustration below for thermal grease dots placement.

    3. Align the OSFP cold plate to the screw holes on the water loop; then, install the cold plate to the water loop.
    4. Install four PH1 screws to secure the OSFP cold plate to the water loop.
    5. With an alcohol cleaning pad, gently clean the putty pads from the interface plate. Then, attach the putty pad to the interface plate. Make sure to follow Gap pad/putty pad replacement guidelines.
    Note

    For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

  4. Installing the OSFP module to the water loop.
    1. Align the OSFP module with screw holes on the cold plate.
    2. Install five T10 screws to secure the OSFP module to the water loop.
    Note

    For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

  5. Locate the CX8 mezzanine module on the GB200-NVL4 board. If necessary, remove the cable retainer from the CX8 mezzanine module.
    1. Remove two T15 screws from the CX8 mezzanine module.
    2. Remove the cable retainer from the CX8 mezzanine module.
    Note

    For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.0+/- 0.5 in-lbs, 0.55+/- 0.056 N-m.

  6. Connect the OSFP module cables to the connectors on the CX8 mezzanine module.

  7. Install the cable retainer.
    1. Install the cable retainer to the CX8 mezzanine module.
    2. With a torque screwdriver set to the proper torque, install two screws to secure the cable retainer.
    Note

    For reference, the torque required for the screws to be fully tightened/removed is 5.2 +/- 0.5 in-lbs, or 0.58 +/- 0.056 N-m.

After you finish
  1. Complete cable routing. See Internal cable routing.

  2. Install the cross bar. See Install the cross bar.

  3. Install the tray cover. See Install the tray cover.

  4. Install the tray into the enclosure. See Install a tray in the enclosure.

  5. Connect all required external cables to the solution.
    Note
    Use extra force to connect QSFP cables to the solution.
  6. Check the power LED on each node to make sure it changes from fast blink to slow blink to indicate all nodes are ready to be powered on.
