Remove the NVLink interposer board

Use this information to remove the NVLink interposer board.

About this task

Required tools

  • GB200 NVL4 NVLink interposer board installation jig

  • GB200 NVL4 NVLink interposer board removal fixture

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

  • To avoid damaging the water loop, always use the water loop carrier when removing, installing or folding the water loop.

  • The following illustration might differ slightly from your hardware, but the removal method is the same.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the tray from the enclosure. See Remove a tray from the enclosure.
    2. Remove the tray cover. See Remove the tray cover.
    3. Remove the cross bar. See Remove the cross bar.
    4. Remove the rear wall. See Remove the rear wall.
    Attention
    The NVLink interposer board removal fixture is heavy. When moving the fixture, make sure to grab the touch points marked in the illustration below.

  2. A plastic bag containing screws is attached to the fixture. Remove the plastic bag from the fixture, and take out the eight screws from it.

  3. Install the eight screws to the NVLink interposer board.

  4. Follow the sequence as shown in the illustration below to loosen twelve (12x) T10 screws to release the NVLink interposer board from the GB200-NVL4 boards.

  5. Remove six screws to remove the NVLink interposer board stiffener.

  6. Make sure the NVLink interposer board removal fixture is at hand. Modify the handle and bracket to the correct position.
    1. Rotate the fixture handle forward.
    2. The bracket will move forward by the handle rotation.

  7. Move the fixture above the tray. Align the fixture with the four guide pins on the tray. Then, place down the fixture to the tray.

  8. Installing four (4x) screws to secure the fixture to the tray.
    Attention
    When installing the fixture, make sure the bracket sits in between the NVLink interposer board and the eight (8x) screws installed in Step 3.

  9. Remove the NVLink interposer board with the fixture.
    1. Rotate the handle outward.
    2. The bracket moves outward, and removes the NVlink interposer board from the GB200-NVL4 boards.
    Note
    If the NVLink interposer board does not move along with the bracket, re-install the bracket following closely to Step 8.

  10. Remove the NVLink interposer board from the fixture.
