Remove the water loop

Use this information to remove the water loop.

About this task

Required tools
  • Screwdriver for PH 2, T10, and T15 screws

  • Water loop shipping bracket

  • GPU cold plate handle assembly

  • GB200 NVL4 TIM Jig

  • T15 screwdriver

  • T10 bit together with torque wrench

  • SC777 V4 GB200 Grease SE 7921

Risk of electric shock due to water or a water solution which is present in this product. Avoid working on or near energized equipment with wet hands or when spilled water is present.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

  • To avoid damaging the water loop, always use the water loop carrier when removing, installing or folding the water loop.

  • A torque screwdriver is available for request if you do not have one at hand.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the tray from the enclosure. See Remove a tray from the enclosure.
    2. Remove the tray cover. See Remove the tray cover.
    3. Remove the cross bar. See Remove the cross bar.
    4. Remove the rear wall. See Remove the rear wall.
    5. Disconnect all the cables from the GB200-NVL4 board. See GB200-NVL4 cable routing
    6. Remove the PCIe adapter riser assembly. See Remove a ConnectX-7 NDR 200 adapter riser assembly, Remove a ConnectX-7 NDR 400 adapter riser assembly, Remove a ConnectX-8 XDR adapter riser assembly, or Remove the OSFP module.
    7. Remove the E3.S drive cages. see Remove an E3.S front drive cage assembly.
  2. Remove six (6x) screws and six (6x) cable ties from the water loop in the front of the tray.

  3. Remove the conduction plates from the GPU cold plates.
    1. Remove three screws from each conduction plate.
    2. Remove two conduction plates from the GPU cold plates.

  4. Using an alcohol cleaning pad, gently clean off the putty pads from the bottom side of the conduction plates and from the GPU cold plates.

  5. Align the shipping bracket with the two guide pins in the tray; then, install the shipping bracket to the front of the tray.

  6. Install sixteen (16x) PH2 thumb screws on the shipping bracket.

  7. Remove two (2x) PH2 screws and three (3x) PH2 screws from each side of the tray. Remove total of four (4x) PH2 screws and six (6x) PH2 screws from right side and left side.

  8. Remove twenty-three (22x) T10 screws to release the water loop from the tray.

  9. Install the T10 extension bit to the torque screwdriver; then, remove eight (8x) T10 screws to release the quick connects from the rear wall.
    Note
    Install the T10 extension bit to the torque screwdriver before removing the screws.

  10. Align the GPU cold plate handles with the guide pins; then, install two GPU cold plate handles to the water loop.

  11. Fasten eight (8x) thumbscrews to install the GPU cold plate handle. Make sure to follow the sequence shown in the illustration below.
    Note
    Fasten the thumbscrews on the right-side and left-side GPU cold plate handles.

  12. Lock the retaining thumbscrew on the GPU cold plate handle.
    Note
    Lock the retaining thumbscrew on the right-side and left-side GPU cold plate handles.
    1. Loosen the nut.
    2. Remove the nut and the washer from the GPU cold plate.
    3. Push the screw into the slot
    4. Re-install the nut and washer back to the GPU cold plate.
    5. Fasten the nut to the screw to secure handle to the GPU cold plate.

  13. Install the T15 extension bit to the torque screwdriver; then, loosen twenty-one (21x) T15 thumbscrews to release the GPU cold plate from the GB200-NVL4 board. Make sure to follow the sequence shown in the illustration below.
    Note
    • Screw 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 are ONLY for Dual CX8 mezzanine module configuration. Fasten/loosen fifteen (15x) screws for MCIO breakout board.

    • Loosen the thumbscrews on the right-side and left-side GPU cold plate handles.

    • Installing the T15 extension bit to the torque screwdriver before loosening the screws.

  14. Flip over the water loops and place them on the shipping bracket.

  15. Fastening eight (8x) PH2 thumbscrews to secure the GPU cold plate handles to the shipping bracket.

  16. Release the quick connects from the rear wall.

  17. Flip over the quick connects to the large shipping bracket. Place the quick connect tab under the thumbscrews.

  18. Fasten four (4x) PH2 thumbscrews to secure the quick connects to the shipping bracket.

  19. Using an alcohol cleaning pad, gently clean the old PCM and putty pads on the GB200-NVL4 boards and the water loop cold plates.
  20. Hold the shipping bracket touching point (marked in blue). Remove the shipping bracket from the tray.
