Completing system setup and configuration using serial port connection

You must complete the configuration and setup using this task with the serial port cable provided.

  1. Cable and configure your laptop or console:
    1. Set the console port on the laptop or console to 115,200 baud with N-8-1.
      Note
      See your laptop or console's online help for how to configure the console port.
    2. Connect the console cable to the laptop or console using the console cable that came with your system, and then connect the laptop to the management switch on the management subnet .
    3. Assign a TCP/IP address to the laptop or console, using one that is on the management subnet.
  2. If your system has two DM240N drive shelves, the shelves are pre-set to shelf ID 01 and 02. If you want to change the shelf IDs, you must use a tool to insert into the hole where button is located.
  3. Plug the power cords into the controller power supplies, and then connect them to power sources on different circuits.
    Note
    Initial booting may take up to eight minutes.
  4. Assign an initial node management IP address to one of the nodes.
    If the management network has DHCP...Then...
    ConfiguredRecord the IP address assigned to the new controllers.
    Not configured
    1. Open a console session using PuTTY, a terminal server, or the equivalent for your environment.
      Note
      Check your laptop or console's online help if you do not know how to configure PuTTY.
    2. Enter the management IP address when prompted by the console.
  5. Use Storage Manager on your laptop or console, configure your cluster:
    1. Point your browser to the node management IP address (from 4).
      Note
      The format for the address is https://x.x.x.x.
    2. Collect the following information to be used in the setup of your DG series system:

      Password for admin account <e.g Eight characters long, must contain at least one letter and one number, special characters are allowed> 
      LicenseLicense will be present on system on new factory orders. If license information is needed after initial setup, go to Lenovo Key Management System and click Retrieve history.
      TCP/IP addresses for cluster and node management (3 total for e0M) 
      TCP/IP addresses for BMC/SP remote management interfaces (2 total for BMC/SP) 
      DNS domain names and DNS server IP address 
      NTP network time services host name or IP address 
      SMTP mail host and email address for notifications 
      SNMP trap host 
      System logs (syslog) server 
      SVM names(s) 
      Setup information for data protocol(s)

      SAN — host side initiators

      NAS — TCP/IP addresses

  6. Set up your account on the Lenovo commercial account portal for ThinkSystem Intelligent Monitoring.
    1. Log in to your existing account or create an account.
    2. Register your system.
