Remove the 3.5-inch backplate

Use this information to remove the 3.5-inch backplate.

About this task

Note
  • Read the following section(s) to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove all drives and drive fillers from the drive bays. See Remove a hot-swap drive.
    2. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
    3. Disconnect the cables from the system board or the RAID adapter. See Backplane and backplate cable routing.
  2. Remove the backplate.
    1. Open the retaining clips by rotating them up.
    2. Rotate the backplate down towards the center of the server.
    3. Lift the backplate out of the server.

After you finish

If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
