Adding disks to a storage pool

You can add SSDs to an existing storage pool and increase its cache size by using Storage Manager.

Before you begin

Both nodes of the HA pair must be up and running in order to allocate SSDs and SSD spares through a storage pool.

About this task

  • The SSDs that you add to a storage pool are distributed proportionally among the aggregates using the storage pool cache and to the free space of the storage pool.

  • Storage Manager enforces the hot spare rule for SSD RAID groups when you use SSDs for adding disks to a storage pool. For example, if there are 10 SSDs in the SSD RAID group and the option raid.min_spare_count is set to 1 at the node level, Storage Manager leaves 1 SSD as the hot spare and uses the other 9 SSDs for SSD-related operations.

  • You cannot use partitioned SSDs when adding disks to a storage pool by using Storage Manager.

  1. Click Storage > Aggregates & Disks > Storage Pools.
  2. In the Storage Pools window, select the storage pool, and then click Add Disks.
  3. In the Add Disks dialog box, specify the number of disks that you want to add.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the Summary dialog box, review how the cache is distributed among various aggregates and the free space of the storage pool.
  6. Click Add .
