Replace battery

Each controller canister includes a battery that preserves cached data if the AC power fails. If the Recovery Guru in ThinkSystem System Manager reports either a Battery Failed status or a Battery Replacement Required status, you must replace the affected battery.

  1. Prepare to replace battery
    The steps to prepare for battery replacement depend on your controller configuration. The following replacement procedure is based on the scenario that you have two controllers. Before you replace the failed batter, you must take the affected controller offline.
  2. Remove failed battery
    You must remove the failed battery so you can install a new one.
  3. Install new battery
    You install a new battery into the controller canister to replace the failed one.
  4. Complete battery replacement
    If you have a two-controller configuration, you place the affected controller online and confirm that all components are working correctly. Then, you can collect support data and resume operations.
