Installing components
After you install the BladeCenter S chassis in a rack, install all components in the BladeCenter S chassis.
- Installing the battery backup unit
If you are installing SAS RAID controller modules, you will also need to install two battery backup units. To install a battery backup unit, slide the unit into the media tray and close the release handle. - Installing a disk storage module
To install a disk storage module, open the release handles on the disk storage module and slide the disk storage module into the disk storage module bay. Then, you can install hard disk drives into the disk storage module by opening the release handle on the hard disk drive and sliding the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay. - Installing a blade server
Install a blade server in the front of the BladeCenter S chassis by opening the two release handles on the blade server, sliding the blade server into the blade server bay, and closing the release handles. Before you install a blade server into BladeCenter S chassis, make sure that you have installed any optional hardware devices, such as a SAS expansion card option, in the blade server. - Installing a serial pass-thru module
Install a serial pass-thru module in the rear of the BladeCenter S chassis by opening the release handle and sliding the serial pass-thru module into the module bay. - Installing an advanced management module
To install an advanced management module, open the release handle on the module and slide it into the advanced management module module bay. - Installing a power module
To install a power module, open the release handle, slide the power module into the power module bay, and close the release handle. - Installing a fan module
To install a fan module, slide it into the fan module bay until the fan handle locks. - Installing an I/O module
To install an I/O module, open the release handle, slide the module into the I/O module bay of the BladeCenter S chassis. Before installing an I/O module, read any installation instructions that comes with that I/O module.
