Discovering devices

Click ‘Add Discovery Task’ in the ‘Discovery and Import’ page.

Select the protocol type from the drop-down list, and input the IP range. The default ‘Subnet Mask’ is 255.255.255.0. You may provide some additional information based on the ‘Protocol type’ you choose.

Choose from 7 protocol types available in the drop-down list: IPMI, SNMPv1v2c, SNMPv3, WS-MAN, HTTPS, SSH, and INBAND_PROTOCOL.

Click OK to run the discovery task.

Energy Manager supports to run multiple discovery tasks at the same time. If you have too many discovery tasks running at the same time, the performance of LXEM would be impact potentially.

After the discovery progress reaches 100%, you may restart or remove the task by clicking the ‘Run Again’ or ’Remove’ button.

The devices discovered will be added to the ‘Device List’ automatically.

Note

If some devices are in the network you specified and are not discovered or imported by LXEM, check the following:

  • Network connectivity

  • Device status

  • Device credential you specified.

  • For CMM based chassis, SSH is the preferred protocol for discovery, and the host key algorithm supported by CMM is not supported by LXEM by default (due to security consideration). To manage CMM based chassis, “,ssh-rsa” needs to be appended to the end of line 25 in $INSTALL_DIR/conf/ssh_config (restarting services required). Example below:

    HostKeyAlgorithms ecdsa-sha2-nistp256,ecdsa-sha2-nistp384,ecdsa-sha2-nistp521,ssh-ed25519,ssh-rsa

  • Due to security consideration, the default account of the latest XClarity Controller may not support IPMI Accessible Interface. Please check the help guide of XClarity Controller to check if a new account should be created for the IPMI accesses.

Click ‘Add SSDP Discovery Task’ to discover Lenovo servers through Simple Service Discovery Protocol. The SSDP discovery is automatically started when the button is clicked and the dialog pops up. After a while, the discovered Lenovo servers are shown in the table. Click ‘Export’ button to export the data in the table. You may click ‘Refresh’ button to discover Lenovo servers with SSDP again. If the devices are not discovered, please configure your firewall to make Energy Manager be able to receive packets from device UDP port 1900.

You may select the discovered Lenovo servers and fill the right device credential to add a new discover task in Energy Manager. After the task is done, the servers should be added into the ‘Device List’ automatically.
