Remove the 3.5-inch backplane

Use this information to remove the 3.5-inch drive backplane.

About this task

Attention
  • Read the following section(s) to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

Depending on the configuration, the following illustration might differ slightly from your backplane.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove all drives and drive fillers from the drive bays. See Remove a hot-swap drive.
    2. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
    3. Disconnect the cables from the backplane. See Backplane and backplate cable routing.
  2. Remove the backplane.
    1. Open the retaining clips by rotating them up.
    2. Rotate the backplane down towards the center of the server.
    3. Lift the backplane out of the server.
