Remove the heat sink

Use this information to remove the heat sink. This procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

Before you remove the heat sink, complete the following steps:
  1. Read the following section(s) to ensure that you work safely.
  2. Turn off the server. Disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).

  3. If server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

  4. Remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).

To remove the heat sink, complete the following steps:

  1. Loosen screw 1 and 2:
    1. Partially loosen screw 1.
    2. Fully loosen screw 2.
    3. Fully loosen screw 1.
    Note
    1. Gently remove the four screws to avoid any possible damage to the system board.

    2. Always keep the four screws attached to the heat sink.

    3. Do not touch the thermal grease while handling the heat sink.

  2. Loosen screw 3 and 4:
    1. Partially loosen screw 3.
    2. Fully loosen screw 4.
    3. Fully loosen screw 3.

  3. Lift evenly and remove the heat sink from the server.

If you are instructed to return the defective component, please package the part to prevent any shipping damage. Reuse the packaging the new part arrived in and follow all packaging instructions.
