Remove the server cover

Follow this procedure to remove the server cover.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels might be present. Only a qualified service technician is authorized to remove the covers where the label is attached.

Hazardous energy present. Voltages with hazardous energy might cause heating when shorted with metal, which might result in spattered metal, burns, or both.

Before removing the server cover:

  1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines (see Safety and Installation guidelines).

  2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).

  3. If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.

  4. Remove any locking device that secures the server cover, such as a Kensington lock or a pad lock.

Complete the following steps to remove the server cover:

  1. Remove the two screws that secure the cover to the chassis.

  2. Press and hold on the release button, and slide the cover towards the rear of the server to remove it.
    Attention
    For proper cooling, always install the server cover before powering on the server. Operating the server without the cover properly installed might result in server component damage.

After removing the server cover:

  1. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
