NVMe over Fibre Channel restrictions

Before using NVMe over Fibre Channel, review the controller, host, and recovery restrictions.

Verify your configuration

Verify your configuration, using the Lenovo Interop Matrix.

About the hardware

For the ThinkSystem SAN OS software 11.60.2 release, only the DE6000H or DE6000F 64GB controller can be configured for NVMe over Fibre Channel. Each controller must have the quad 32Gb host port HIC installed.

Restrictions

For an up-to-date listing of all restrictions, see the Lenovo Interop Matrix for a complete list of requirements.

Controller restrictions

  • This protocol can be used only for an DE6000H or DE6000F controller with a minimum of 64 GB of physical memory. If the minimum memory requirements for the DE6000H controller are not met during start of day operations, a message is displayed that helps you diagnose the problem.
  • No simplex (single-controller) configurations are supported.

Host, host protocol, and host operating system restrictions

  • For an up-to-date listing of all compatible host, host protocol, and host operating systems, see the Lenovo Interop Matrix for a complete list of requirements.
  • For a list of supported host channel adapters see the Lenovo Interop Matrix .
  • The only supported host interface card (HIC) is the dual 32GB Fibre Channel HIC, which also supports NVMe over Fibre Channel.
  • In-band CLI management via 11.50.3 SMcli is not supported in NVMe-oF modes.

Storage and disaster recovery restrictions

  • Asynchronous and synchronous mirroring are not supported.
  • Thin provisioning (the creation of thin volumes) is not supported.
