Replacing the system board

Use this information to replace the system board.

Note
  1. When you reassemble the components in the server, be sure to route all cables carefully so that they are not exposed to excessive pressure.
  2. When you replace the system board, you must either update the server with the latest firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware from a diskette or CD image. Make sure that you have the latest firmware or a copy of the pre-existing firmware before you proceed. See Updating the firmware, Updating the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID), and Updating the DMI/SMBIOS data for more information.
  3. When you replace the system board, make sure that you remove the Integrated Management Module Advanced Upgrade and place it on the new system board. For information about the Advanced Upgrade, see Using the remote presence and blue-screen capture features.
Important
Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinated code updates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest level of code is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code.

To install the system board, complete the following steps:

  1. Read the safety information that begins on Safety, Handling static-sensitive devices, and Removing and replacing guidelines.
  2. Align the system board with the slots on the side of the chassis and lower the right side into the chassis first; then, lower the other side of the system board into the chassis.

  5. Reconnect to the system board the cables that you disconnected in step 13 of Removing the system board (see Internal cable routing and connectors).
  6. (Trained technician only) Install the microprocessor and heat sink (see Replacing a microprocessor and heat sink).
  7. Install the memory modules (see Installing a memory module).
  8. If necessary, install the virtual media key.
  9. Install the coin-cell battery (see Replacing the coin-cell battery (also called CMOS battery)).
  10. Install the PCI riser-card assemblies and adapters, if any were installed (see Replacing an adapter and Replacing a riser-card assembly).
  11. Install the air baffle (see Replacing the air baffle).
  12. Install the fan cage assembly (see Replacing the fan cage assembly).
  13. Install the top cover (see Replacing the top cover).
  14. Push the power supplies back into the server.
  15. Slide the server into the rack.
  16. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.
  17. Turn on the peripheral devices and the server.
  18. Start the Setup Utility and reset the configuration.
    • Set the system date and time.
    • Set the power-on password.
    • Reconfigure the server.
See Using the Setup Utility for more details.
  19. Update the UUID (see Updating the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID)).
  20. Update the DMI/SMBIOS (see Updating the DMI/SMBIOS data).
  21. Reactivate any Feature on Demand features such as the Advanced IMM.
  22. Update the Nutanix specific configuration (see Configuring the HX Series appliance).
