Features

Performance, ease of use, reliability, and expansion capabilities were key considerations in the design of your server. These design features make it possible for you to customize the system hardware to meet your needs today and provide flexible expansion capabilities for the future.

This server implements the following features and technologies:
  • Lenovo XClarity Controller (XCC)

The Lenovo XClarity Controller is the common management controller for Lenovo ThinkSystem server hardware. The Lenovo XClarity Controller consolidates multiple management functions in a single chip on the server system board.

Some of the features that are unique to the Lenovo XClarity Controller are enhanced performance, higher-resolution remote video, and expanded security options. For additional information about the Lenovo XClarity Controller, refer to the XCC documentation compatible with your server at:

    Lenovo XClarity Controller portal page

    Important

Lenovo XClarity Controller (XCC) supported version varies by product. All versions of Lenovo XClarity Controller are referred to as Lenovo XClarity Controller and XCC in this document, unless specified otherwise. To see the XCC version supported by your server, go to Lenovo XClarity Controller portal page.

  • UEFI-compliant server firmware

Lenovo ThinkSystem firmware is Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) compliant. UEFI replaces BIOS and defines a standard interface between the operating system, platform firmware, and external devices.

Lenovo ThinkSystem servers are capable of booting UEFI-compliant operating systems, BIOS-based operating systems, and BIOS-based adapters as well as UEFI-compliant adapters.

    Note
The server does not support Disk Operating System (DOS).
  • Large system-memory capacity

The server supports synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) registered dual inline memory modules (DIMMs) with error correcting code (ECC), and persistent memory modules (PMEM). For more information about the specific types and maximum amount of memory, see Specifications.

  • Large data-storage capacity

This server supports up to two 15mm SAS/SATA/NVMe or four 7mm SATA/NVMe trayless drives, and two optional 2.5-inch 15mm SAS/SATA/NVMe hot-swap drives.

  • Front operator panel

Front operator panel provides LEDs to help you diagnose problems. For more information about the front operator panel, see Front operator panel.

  • Mobile access to Lenovo Service Information website

The server provides a QR code on the system service label, which is on the cover of the server, that you can scan using a QR code reader and scanner with a mobile device to get quick access to the Lenovo Service Information website. The Lenovo Service Information website provides additional information for parts installation, replacement videos, and error codes for server support.

  • Active Energy Manager

Lenovo XClarity Energy Manager is a power and temperature management solution for data centers. You can monitor and manage the power consumption and temperature of Converged, NeXtScale, System x, ThinkServer, ThinkSystem and ThinkEdge servers, and improve energy efficiency using Lenovo XClarity Energy Manager.

  • Redundant cooling and optional power capabilities

The server supports a maximum of two hot-swap power supply units and six internal fans, which provide redundancy for a typical configuration. The redundant cooling by the fans in the server enables continued operation if one of the fans fails.

  • ThinkSystem RAID support

The system provides redundant array of independent disks (RAID) support of level 0, 1, and 10.

  • Integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

This integrated security chip performs cryptographic functions and stores private and public secure keys. It provides the hardware support for the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) specification.

  • Lenovo XClarity Controllers System Lockdown Mode

System lockdown will be enforced under specific circumstances to protect the server from information breach, particularly when the server is transported by non-certified carriers to remote environments. See Lenovo XClarity Controller System Lockdown Mode for details.

  • Zero-touch deployment

Zero-touch deployment software allows remote deployment, particularly when the server is transported by non-certified carriers to remote environments with no certified personnels to set it up in person.
