Remove an adapter
Use this information to remove an adapter.
Before you remove an adapter, complete the following steps:
Replacing the adapter might impact your RAID configurations. Back up your data before the replacement to avoid any data loss due to a RAID configuration change.
Read Safety and Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.
Turn off the server. Disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).
If server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.
Remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).
Remove the PCIe riser assembly (see Remove the PCIe riser assembly).
Record the cable connections on the adapter; then, disconnect all cables from the adapter.
To remove an adapter, complete the following steps:

- Disengage the adapter by pulling it straight out of the riser cage.NoteRemove one adapter at a time, do not pull out two adapters at the same time.
- Install the fillers (if you had them) by sliding them into the slot toward the center of the PCIe riser assembly.
If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
