Install a PCIe adapter

Follow this procedure to install a PCIe adapter.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

  • The PCIe adapter might look different from the illustration.

  • Make sure to read the documentation that comes with the PCIe adapter, and follow the instructions.

Before installing a PCIe adapter:

  1. Make sure the PCIe adapter retainer is in the open position. If not, press the release button on the rear of the chassis to open it.

  2. If a bracket lies in place, remove it and keep it for future use.

  3. Place the server on its side with the cover up.

  4. Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

To install a PCIe adapter, complete the following steps:

  1. Locate the applicable PCIe slot. For more information about the PCIe slots, see Specifications.
  2. If the retaining clip on the side of the PCIe slot is closed, press on it to open it.
  3. Align the PCIe adapter to the slot; then, gently press both ends of the PCIe adapter until it is securely seated in the slot with the retaining clip clicks into the locked position.

After installing the PCIe adapter:
  1. Depending on the type of the PCIe adapter, you might need to connect one or more cables. For more information, read the documentation that comes with the PCIe adapter.

  2. To secure the installed adapter, pivot the retainer towards the chassis until it snaps into the locked position.

  3. Proceed to complete the parts replacement (see Complete the parts replacement).
