Remove a front fan

Use this information to remove a front fan.

Power off the server for this task

ATTENTION: Static Sensitive Device Ground package before opening

Before removing a front fan:

1. If the server is installed in a rack, extend the server from the rack.

2. Remove the server cover. See Remove the server cover.

3. Remove the air baffle. See Remove the air baffle.

To remove a front fan, complete the following steps:

1. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
2. Press down the release tab and pivot the front fan as shown. Then, take the front fan out of the chassis.

After removing the front fan:

1. Install either a new front fan or a fan filler for proper air flow. See Install a front fan.

2. If you are instructed to return the old front fan, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging materials that are provided.
