Critical Events Reference

Critical events from DE Series arrays display certain defined fields in the alert and SNMP trap messages.

Recovery Guru

You can use the Recovery Guru to diagnose and recover from problems within your ThinkSystem System Manager.

The Recovery Guru window is divided into three panes:
  • Summary - Lists storage array problems.

  • Details - Shows information about the selected problem in the Summary pane.

  • Recovery Procedure - Lists the appropriate steps to resolve the selected problem in the Summary pane.

Note
For detail operation, see Recover from problems using Recovery Guru section in ThinkSystem System Manager online help.

Storage array alert traps

When a critical Major Event Log (MEL) event is generated, the embedded SNMP agent delivers a storage array alert trap to all configured trap destinations. This message contains the following data:
MIB variable fieldDescription
Storage array nameStorage array user label. If the label contains non-ASCII characters, the resulting variable binding is populated with the fixed string "NonASCII Name." If the label is blank, the variable binding is populated with the fixed string "Unnamed."
Event typeEvent Code (4-digit hexadecimal) for the particular MEL event that prompted the trap.
Event timeTimestamp of event in MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS (24-hour clock) format. Note this is always controller/GMT time.
Event descriptionDescription of the specific MEL event that prompted the trap.
Event component typeString representation of component type for the MEL vent that prompted the trap. Defaults to "Not Available" if component type cannot be identified.
Event component locationThis data is not populated by the embedded SNMP agent running on the controller at this time.
Event severityString representation of the severity of the MEL event that prompted the trap. Defaults to "Unknown" if severity cannot be identified.
Event priorityString representation of the priority of the MEL event that prompted the trap. Defaults to "Unknown" if priority cannot be identified.
Storage array WWID32-character printable ASCII representation of the 16-byte Storage Array World Wide Name.
Chassis serial number32-character printable ASCII representation of the 16-byte Storage array World Wide Name.
