Configuring SAS connectivity modules

You can install up to two SAS connectivity modules in the BladeCenter S chassis. Configure them by setting the date and time, modifying user ID passwords, updating the firmware, and configuring SAS zoning.

If you have installed a single SAS connectivity module, make sure that it is installed in I/O bay 3. The second SAS connectivity module must be installed in I/O bay 4.
There are several ways to access the SAS connectivity module to configure it:
  • Using BladeCenter Start Now Advisor during initial setup.

You can set the date and time, modify user passwords, update firmware, and configure SAS zoning through BladeCenter Start Now Advisor. You can manage both SAS connectivity modules from this interface.

  • Using Storage Configuration Manager to manage the SAS connectivity module.

You can set the date and time, modify user passwords, update firmware, and configure SAS zoning through Storage Configuration Manager. You can manage both SAS connectivity modules from this interface.

Note
You can also configure SAS connectivity modules using the Web interface, using a browser, or the command-line interface (CLI), using a program such as Telnet. You can obtain the You can obtain the IP address from the System Status page of the advanced management module Web interface.

To configure a SAS connectivity module, complete the following steps:

  1. Access the SAS connectivity module, using its IP address. The default user ID is USERID, and the default password is PASSW0RD (note the number zero, not the letter O, in PASSW0RD).
  2. Update the SAS connectivity module firmware, if necessary.
  3. Set the date and time for the SAS connectivity module, or set the IP address for the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server that is to be used.
    Note
You cannot set the date and time from the Web interface.
  4. Modify passwords for the user IDs. Four user IDs are available:
    Note
All user IDs have the same initial password: PASSW0RD (note the number zero, not the letter O, in PASSW0RD).
    • USERID: This user ID has the authority to modify its own password and the passwords for all other user IDs.
    • USERID1: This user ID has the authority to modify its own password and the passwords for USERID2 and USERID3.
    • USERID2: This user ID has the authority to modify its own password and the password for USERID3.
    • USERID3: This user ID has the authority to modify its own password but cannot modify passwords for any other user IDs.
  5. If you did not select a predefined configuration, configure SAS zoning by assigning the hard disk drives in the storage modules to blade servers and assigning access from the blade servers to external ports on the SAS connectivity module.
