Install a drive

Use this information to install a drive.

About this task

Required tools

You may need the following kits and to properly replace the component.

Important
Gap pad replacement guidelines
  • For gap pad location and instruction, see Gap pad identification and location.

  • Before replacing the gap pad, gently clean the surface with an alcohol cleaning pad.

  • Hold the gap pad carefully to avoid deformation. Make sure no screw hole or opening is blocked by the gap pad material.

Procedure

  1. For installing one 7 mm or 15 mm drive only, complete the following steps.
    1. Find the cable with its plugger marked as SSD 0/2, and connect it to the drive.

    2. Flip the drive over.

    3. Install the drive into the bottom of the drive cage and make sure it is secured in place.

    Note
Secure the unconnected cable plugger on top side of the drive cage.

  2. For installing two 7 mm drives, complete the following steps.
    1. If removed, install the conduction plate into the bottom of the drive cage and secure it with four screws.

There are gap pads located on both side of the conduction plate.
      • If the small gap pad (1) is damaged or detached, replace it with a new one.

      • If the bigger gap pad (2) is damaged or detached, discard the conduction plate. Then, install a new conduction plate already installed with the two gap pads.

      Note
Make sure the metal tab is in the unlocked position.

    2. Install the lower drive.
      1. Find the cable with its plugger marked as SSD 0/2, and connect it to the drive.

      2. Flip the drive over.

      3. Install the drive into the bottom of the drive cage and make sure it is secured in place.

    3. Install the upper drive.
      1. Find the cable with its plugger marked as SSD 1/3, and connect it to the drive. Then, pivot the drive into the top of the drive cage as shown.

      2. Push and hold the release latch.

      3. Slide the metal tab to the locked position.

After you finish
  1. Install the drive cage. See Install a drive cage assembly.

  2. Install the cross braces. See Install the cross braces.

  3. Install the tray cover. See Install the tray cover.

  4. Install the tray into the enclosure. See Install a tray in the enclosure.

  5. Connect all required external cables to the solution.
    Note
Use extra force to connect QSFP cables to the solution.
  6. Check the power LED on each node to make sure it changes from fast blink to slow blink to indicate all nodes are ready to be powered on.
    Note

Shared I/O configuration requires specific nodes power-on sequence. When powering on the system, power on Node B first; then, power on Node A. For more information, see PCIe adapter cable routing.
