Remove the FPC battery

Use this information to remove the FPC battery.

The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

CAUTION

When replacing the lithium battery, use only Lenovo specified part number or an equivalent type battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a module containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module type made by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of.

Do not:
  • Throw or immerse into water
  • Heat to more than 100°C (212°F)
  • Repair or disassemble

Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.

CAUTION
The battery is a lithium ion battery. To avoid possible explosion, do not burn the battery. Exchange it only with the approved part. Recycle or discard the battery as instructed by local regulations.

Before you remove the FPC battery:

  1. Read the Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  2. Remove the FPC (see Remove the FPC).
  3. If you want to migrate current enclosure settings and the enclosure midplane VPD onto the new FPC, make sure you have done the following:

    1. You had performed FPC settings backup, the enlcosure VPD backup, and the midplane VPD backup procedures.

    2. Keep the old USB key which is removed from the FPC and install it onto the new FPC.

Complete the following steps to remove the FPC battery.

  1. Locate the battery.

  2. Using your fingernail, press the battery retaining clip. The battery should pop free.

    Note
    Do not lift the battery by using excessive force. Failing to remove the battery properly may damage the socket on the FPC. Any damage to the socket may require replacing the FPC.
  3. Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations. See Environmental Notices for more information.
  4. Store original FPC VPD back to new FPC for warranty remaining, if it is replaced.
