Install the 2.5-inch drive backplane

Follow instructions in this section to install the 2.5-inch drive backplane.

About this task

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Procedure

  1. Position the 2.5-inch drive backplane and the backplane module as illustrated below. Align the square-shape guide slot on the drive backplane to the square-shape guide pin on backplane module, and align the screw holes on backplane and the backplane module. Then, insert the backplane into the backplane module.
    Note
    Make sure the backplane and backplane module position is arranged as illustrated below.

  2. Hold the backplane and the backplane module together; then, turn them over as illustrated below. Fasten the two screws to secure the backplane to the backplane module.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the 2.5-inch drive backplane module. See Install the 2.5-inch drive backplane module.

  2. Reconnect the power and signal cables to the 2.5-inch drive backplane.

  3. Reinstall the 2.5-inch hot-swap drive or drive bay filler (if any). See Install a 2.5-inch hot-swap drive.

  4. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
