Install a PCIe adapter

Follow instructions in this section to install a PCIe adapter.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

The PCIe adapter might look different from the illustration.

Select the PCIe adapter installation scenario

Based on the location of the PCIe adapter, see corresponding instructions below for proper installation procedure:

Install a front PCIe adapter​

Procedure

  1. Align the front PCIe adapter with the PCIe slot on the front I/O expansion board; then, press the front PCIe adapter into the slot until it is fully seated.
  2. Fasten the screw that secures the front PCIe adapter to the front I/O expansion board.

  3. If applicable, reconnect all cables to the front PCIe adapter.

Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.

Install a rear PCIe adapter​

Procedure

  1. Open the retention latch on the PCIe riser.
  2. Install the rear PCIe adapter.
    1. Insert the rear PCIe adapter into the PCIe riser.
    2. Fasten the screw to secure the rear PCIe adapter to the PCIe riser.
    3. Close the retention latch.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the PCIe riser. See Install a PCIe riser.
  2. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
