Remove the intrusion switch

Follow this procedure to remove the intrusion switch.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Before removing the intrusion switch:
  1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines (see Safety and Installation guidelines).

  2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).

  3. If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.

  4. Remove any locking device that secures the server cover, such as a Kensington lock or a pad lock.

  5. Remove the server cover (see Remove the server cover).
    CAUTION
    The heat sinks and processor could be very hot. To avoid from burning yourself, wait for a few minutes after turning off the server before you remove the server cover.

To remove the intrusion switch, complete the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the intrusion switch cable from the system board.
    Note

    Follow the instructions in Internal cable routing and handle the release tab on the connector carefully.

  2. Remove the screw that secures the intrusion switch, and remove the intrusion switch from the chassis.

After removing the intrusion switch:
  1. Install a new intrusion switch (see Install the intrusion switch).

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
