Installing a ServeRAID controller
Use this information to install a ServeRAID controller.
Before you install the ServeRAID controller, complete the following steps:
- Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
- If the compute node is installed in an Flex System chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
- Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.

If possible, backup or record your RAID configuration information before replacing the adapter. See the documentation for your RAID adapter for information and instructions. Documentation for ServeRAID adapters can be downloaded from the Lenovo Support Portal
If you are installing a ServeRAID M5115 controller, go to Flex System Optional Devices for a link to the ServeRAID M5115 installation guide.
To install the ServeRAID H1135 controller, complete the following steps.
- Remove the cover (see Removing the compute node cover).
- Touch the static-protective package that contains the ServeRAID controller to an unpainted metal surface on any grounded rack component; then, remove the controller from the package.
- Locate the ServeRAID controller connector (see System-board layouts).
- Orient the connector on the ServeRAID controller with the connector on the system-board; then, press the controller into the system-board connector.
- Firmly press on the indicated locations to seat the ServeRAID controller.
- Import your RAID configuration to the replacement ServeRAID adapter as a foreign configuration. See the ServeRAID-M Software User Guide at ServeRAID-M Software User Guide for instructions.
After you install the ServeRAID controller, complete the following steps:
- Install the cover onto the compute node (see Installing the compute node cover for instructions).
- Install the compute node into the chassis (see Installing a compute node in a chassis for instructions).
