Installing the system board

Use this information to install the system board.

Note
  1. When you reassemble the components in the server, be sure to route all cables carefully so that they are not exposed to excessive pressure.
  2. When you replace the system board, you must either update the server with the latest firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware that the customer provides on a diskette or CD image. Make sure that you have the latest firmware or a copy of the pre-existing firmware before you proceed. See Updating the firmware, Updating the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID), and Updating the DMI/SMBIOS data for more information.
Important
Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinated code updates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest level of code is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code.

To install the system board, complete the following steps:

  1. Read the safety information that begins on Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Align the system board with the chassis; then, lower the system board into the chassis and slide the system board toward the rear of the server until the system board is seated firmly into the locator pins on the chassis.

  3. Grasp the fan assembly brackets and rotate them down toward the chassis.
  4. Reinstall the hot-swap fans (see Installing a hot-swap fan assembly).
  5. (Trained service technician only) Reinstall the microprocessor and heat sink (see Installing a microprocessor and heat sink).
  6. Reinstall the SAS/SATA RAID riser-card assembly base (see Installing the SAS/SATA RAID riser-card assembly).
  7. Reinstall the DIMMs (see Installing a memory module).
  8. Reinstall the system battery (see Installing the system battery).
  9. Reinstall the microprocessor 2 and DIMM air baffles (see Installing the microprocessor 2 air baffle and Installing the DIMM air baffle).
  10. Reinstall the PCI riser-card assemblies and adapters, if any were installed (see Installing a PCI riser-card assembly).
  11. Reinstall the virtual media key (see Installing the virtual media key).
  12. Reconnect to the system board the cables that you disconnected in Step 12 in “Removing the system board”.
  13. Install the cover (see Installing the cover).
  14. Push the power supplies back into the server.
  15. Slide the server into the rack.
  16. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.
  17. Turn on the peripheral devices and the server.
