Remove the CMOS battery (CR2032)

Use this information to remove the CMOS battery (CR2032).

About this task

To avoid potential danger, read and follow the following safety statements.
  • S002
    disconnect all power
    CAUTION
    The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

    CAUTION

    When replacing the lithium battery, use only Lenovo specified part number or an equivalent type battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a module containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module type made by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of.

    Do not:
    • Throw or immerse into water
    • Heat to more than 100°C (212°F)
    • Repair or disassemble

    Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.

    CAUTION
    The battery is a lithium ion battery. To avoid possible explosion, do not burn the battery. Exchange it only with the approved part. Recycle or discard the battery as instructed by local regulations.

Read the Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.
Make sure to read the following notes carefully before replacing the CMOS battery in the compute node.

  • Do not make CMOS battery in contact with any metal surface during the replacement. Any contact with a metal surface, such as the compute node and enclosure side, can cause damages to the battery.

  • When replacing the battery, you must replace it with another CMOS battery of the exact same type (CR2032) made by the same manufacturer.

  • After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure the solution and reset the system date and time.

  • Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the compute node from the enclosure (see Remove a compute node from the enclosure).
    2. Remove the node front cover from the compute node (see Remove the node front cover).
  2. Remove the CMOS battery from the compute node.
    1. Gently push on one side of the battery until it leaves the socket.
    2. Use your thumb and index finger to lift the battery out of the socket.
    Attention
    Do not lift the battery with excessive force, as it may cause damages to the socket on the system board. Any damage to the socket may require replacing the system board.
  3. Dispose of the CMOS battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.

After you finish

If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all of the packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
