Install the system board

Use this information to install the system board.

Before installing the system board, touch the static-protective package that contains the new system board to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, take the new system board out of the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

To install the system board, complete the following steps:

  1. Grasp the system board by the release pin 1 and the lift handle 2 at the same time, and tilt the system board at an angle of approximately 20 degrees as shown.
  2. Align the hole 3 on the system board with the corresponding mounting stud 5 on the chassis first, and then align the hole 4 by the same way.
    Note
    Before you align the two holes, prevent the system board from touching the mounting studs on the chassis.
  3. Lower the system board into the chassis and slide it to the rear of the chassis until it clicks into position.
  4. Install the four screws in the following sequence.

After installing the system board:
  1. Push the power supplies into the bays until they click into place.

  2. Install any components that you removed from the failing system board. See the related topics in Hardware replacement procedures.

  3. Update the machine type and serial number with new vital product data (VPD). Use the Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager to update the machine type and serial number. See Update the machine type and serial number.

  4. Enable TPM/TCM. See Enable TPM/TCM.

  5. Optionally, enable Secure Boot. See Enable UEFI Secure Boot.
