Install the front fan

Follow this procedure to install the front fan.

Power off the server for this task

CAUTION

The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Before installing the front fan:

1. If a front fan has been installed, remove it (see Remove the front fan).

2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

To install the front fan, complete the following steps:

1. Align the four rubber mounts on the front fan assembly with the corresponding holes on the front of the chassis; then, push and lower the fan until it is secured to the chassis with the rubber mounts.

2. Route the fan cable through the hole on the front of the chassis as illustrated.

3. Connect the fan cable to the system board (see Cable routing for the fans).
