Unable to take a Windows VM backup

You might be unable to take backups for a Windows VM when certain services are disabled.

Complete the following steps to resolve this issue.

  1. Open Windows Services Manager.

    From the Run window, run the following command:

    services.msc

  2. Make sure that these services are enabled and that the startup type is as follows:
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPCSS). Validate that Startup Type is set to Automatic.

    • COM+ Event System (EventSystem). Validate that Startup Type is set to Manual.

    • System Event Notification Service (SENS). Validate that Startup Type is set to Automatic.

    • Volume Shadow Copy (VSC). Validate that Startup Type is set to Manual.

    • Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider (SWPRV). Validate that Startup Type is set to Manual.

If, after enabling these services, the backups show a size of zero (0), reload the application instance.
