Installing an air damper

The installation of an air damper should only be performed by a trained service technician.

Read Safety and Installation guidelines before performing this procedure.

There is an air damper inside each of the BladeCenter S chassis blade server bays. Perform these steps to install the air damper.

  1. Make sure all blade servers are removed from the BladeCenter S chassis, and that it is disconnected from power.
  2. From the rear of the BladeCenter S chassis, slide the air damper into the air damper slot towards the front of the chassis.

  3. Attach the air damper to the BladeCenter S chassis.
  4. From the front of the BladeCenter S chassis, connect the spring to the air damper, orienting the spring so that it fits into the spring hole.

  5. Connect the other end of the spring to the BladeCenter S chassis, orienting the spring so that it fits into the spring hole.
  6. Install blade servers (see Installing a blade server).
  7. Connect the BladeCenter S chassis to power.
