Removing an air damper

The removal of an air damper should only be performed by a trained service technician.

Read Safety and Installation guidelines before performing this procedure.

There are upper and lower air dampers inside each of the BladeCenter S chassis blade server bays.

Perform these steps to remove an air damper.

  1. Disconnect the BladeCenter S chassis from power.
  2. Remove all blade servers (see Removing a blade server).
  3. Remove the air damper.
    1. From the front of the BladeCenter S chassis, reach into the blade server bays and detach the spring from air damper and the front of the chassis.

    2. From the rear of the BladeCenter S chassis, detach the air damper from the chassis.
      Note
      You may need to carefully work the air damper from side to side to detach it.
    3. Slide the damper out of the rear of the BladeCenter S chassis, lifting the back of the damper slightly to clear the metal tabs on the chassis.
