Removing and replacing CRUs
Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM® installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation. However, IBM will replace a Tier 2 CRU at your request for no additional charge.
- Removing a bezel
To remove the bezel, press the release buttons and pull the bezel away from the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing a bezel
To install a bezel, align the bezel on the BladeCenter S chassis and press the bezel into place until the release buttons lock. - Removing the media tray
You can remove the media tray while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, open the release handles and slide the media tray from the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing the media tray
You can install the media tray while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install it, slide it into the BladeCenter S chassis and close the release handles. - Removing the DVD drive
To remove a DVD drive, open the media tray cover, pinch the DVD retention release, and slide the DVD drive out of the media tray. - Installing the DVD drive
To install a DVD drive, slide the DVD drive into the media tray until the DVD drive release locks. Then, close the media tray cover. - Removing the battery backup unit
To remove the battery backup unit, open the release handle on the battery backup unit and slide the battery backup unit out of the media tray. - Installing the battery backup unit
To install the battery backup unit, slide the unit into the media tray and close the release handle. - Removing an advanced management module
You can remove the advanced management module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, disconnect all cables, open the release handle, and slide the advanced management module out of the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing an advanced management module
You can install the advanced management module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install it, open the release handle on the module and slide advanced management module into the advanced management module bay. - Removing a blade server
To remove a blade server, open the release handles and slide it out of the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing a blade server
To install a blade server in the front of the BladeCenter S chassis, opening the release handles on the blade server, slide it into a blade server bay, and close the release handles. - Removing a fan module
You can remove a fan module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, grasp the fan handle and slide the fan module out of the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing a fan module
You can install a fan module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install it, slide the fan module into the fan module bay until the fan handle locks. - Removing an I/O module
You can remove an I/O module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, disconnect all cables, open the release handle, and slide the module out of the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing an I/O module
You can install an I/O module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install an I/O module, open the release handle, slide the module into the I/O module bay of the BladeCenter S chassis, and connect appropriate cables to the module. - Removing a power module
You can remove a power module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, open the release handle and slide the power module out of the power module bay. - Installing a power module
You can install a power module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install it, open the release handle, slide the power module into the power module bay, and close the release handle. - Removing a serial pass-thru module
You can remove a serial pass-thru module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, disconnect all cables, open the release handle, and slide the serial pass-thru module out of the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing a serial pass-thru module
You can install a serial pass-thru module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install it in the serial pass-thru module bay, open the release handle and slide the serial pass-thru module into the serial pass-thru module module bay. - Removing a disk storage module
You can remove a disk storage module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To remove it, remove the hard disk drives, open the release handles on the disk storage module, and slide the module out of the BladeCenter S chassis. - Installing a disk storage module
You can install a disk storage module while the BladeCenter S system is powered on. To install it, open the release handles on the disk storage module and slide the disk storage module into the disk storage module bay. Then, you can install hard disk drives into the disk storage module.
