Install a management switch to the rack

Follow instructions in this section to install a management switch to the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

Do not leave multiple management switches open at the same time, as it may increase the risk of over-tilting or instability.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure a lift tool is available to perform the replacement.

Procedure

  1. Remove the inner rails from the intermediate rails.
    1. Slide the inner rail out until it stops.
    2. Press the white latch.
    3. Remove the inner rail completely from the rack.
    4. Repeat for the other inner rail.

  2. Install the inner rails to the management switch.
    1. Align the mounting holes on the inner rail with the corresponding mounting pins on the side of the switch.
    2. Push the inner rail as shown until the mounting pins on the switch are locked in place.
    3. Set the torque screwdriver to 13 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the screw to secure the inner rail to the switch.
    4. Repeat for the other inner rail.

  3. Install the management switch.
    1. Align the inner rails with the intermediate rails.
    2. Slide the switch all the way into the rack.
    3. Tighten the two screws to secure the switch.

After you finish

  1. Reconnect any previously removed cables.
  2. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
