Remove a management switch from the rack

Follow instructions in this section to remove a management switch from the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

Do not leave multiple management switches open at the same time, as it may increase the risk of over-tilting or instability.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
  • Power off the management switch and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the rack solution.
Note
Ensure a lift tool is available to perform the replacement.

Procedure

  1. Slide out the management switch.
    1. Loosen the two screws securing the switch.
    2. Hold the switch and slide it out until it stops.

  2. Press the white latches on both sides of the rail to remove the management swich completely from the rack. Then, place the tray on the lift tool.

  3. Remove the inner rail from the management switch.
    1. Loosen the screw that secure the inner rail.
    2. Slightly pull the latch upward to disengage the inner rail from the mounting pins on the switch.
    3. Remove the inner rail from the switch.
    4. Repeat the same steps above to remove the other inner rail.
