Install a power shelf to the rack
Follow instructions in this section to install a power shelf to the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

CAUTION
Use safe practices when lifting.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
CAUTION
Electrical current from power, telephone, and communication cables is hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard:
- Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet/source.
- Connect any equipment that will be attached to this product to properly wired outlets/sources.
- When possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables.
- Never turn on any equipment when there is evidence of fire, water, or structural damage.
- The device might have more than one power cord, to remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Attention
Do not leave multiple power shelves open at the same time, as it may increase the risk of over-tilting or instability.


Attention
- Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
- Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure a lift tool is available to perform the replacement.
Procedure
Install the power shelf.
Align the power shelf with the rail, and slide the power shelf into the rack.
Fasten the two screws on the front to secure the power shelf.

After you finish
- Reinstall the PMC module. See Install a hot-swap PMC module to a power shelf.
- Reinstall the power supply units. See Install a hot-swap power supply unit to a power shelf.
- Insert the power whip into the left side of the power shelf until it clicks.NoteInstalling the power whip may require two people to ensure sufficient force is applied for a proper connection.Figure 2. Installing the power whip
