M.2 storage drive installation rules and order
This section contains information on the M.2 storage drive installation rules and order.
The following expansion slots(Slot 3-12) / M.2 bays(M.2 Bay 2 to 11) support M.2 storage drives:
Slot 3 to 6 / M.2 Bay 2 to 5 on M.2 cabled adapter (Left wing of riser assembly)
Slot 7 to 10 / M.2 Bay 6 to 9 on M.2 adapter (Right wing of riser assembly)
Slot 11, 12 / M.2 Bay 10, 11 on bottom M.2 cabled adapter (Bottom layer of the node)
The available slots / M.2 bays vary by configuration.
Follow the rules below when installing M.2 storage drives:
General rule
The installation order when mixing drives of different capacity: Drives of smaller capacity → drives of larger capacity.
The slot / M.2 bays are numbered to indicate the installation order. When installing M.2 storage drives, start from the lowest numbered slot / M.2 bay which supports M.2 storage drive.
Installation rules and order: Non-RAID configuration
For non-RAID configuration, mixing M.2 storage drives of different form factor is allowed.
See the following table for the installation order of non-RAID configuration.
Number of M.2 storage drives | One, three, five, or seven 80 mm (2280) M.2 drive(s) | Zero, two, four, six, or eight 80 mm (2280) M.2 drive(s) |
One, three, five, or seven 110 mm (22110) M.2 drive(s) | 110 mm drives → keep one slot as empty → 80 mm drives | 80 mm drives → 110 mm drives |
Zero, two, four, six, or eight 110 mm (22110) M.2 drive(s) | 110 mm drives → 80 mm drives | 110 mm drives → 80 mm drives |
Installation rules and order: RAID configuration
For RAID configuration, mixing M.2 storage drives of different form factor is not allowed.
