Remove the server from rack

About this task

Attention

• Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

CAUTION

Make sure to have three people operate the server removal procedures to prevent injury.

Use safe practices when lifting.

CAUTION

Do not place any object on top of a rack-mounted device unless that rack-mounted device is intended for use as a shelf.

Procedure

1. Loosen the two thumbscrews located on the front of the server to disengage it from the rack.

2. Hold the mounting ears on the front of the server; then, slide the server all the way out until it stops.

3. Remove the server from the rack.
   CAUTION

   Make sure three people are lifting the sever by holding the lift points

   1. Press the release tabs to disengage the rails from the server.
   2. Carefully lift up the front end of the server slightly to detach the nailheads from the slots on the rails.
   3. With three people, lift up the serve to remove it from the rails completely. Place the server on a flat and sturdy surface.

1. Determine the lifting method. Two lifting options are available:

   For two-person lift, remove the following components beforehand: All the power supply units All the storage drives Top cover	Otherwise, lift the server with three people or a lifting device.
   	CAUTION Make sure to lift the server by holding the lift points.

2. Loosen the thumbscrews.
3. Slide the server out until it stops.
4. Lift the lock latches up and remove the server completely from the rack; then place it on a flat and stable surface.
5. Remove the inner rail from the server.

   Press and hold on the release tab; then, simultaneously, slide the inner rail backwards until the T-pins on the server disengage from the inner rail. Remove the inner rail from the server.

6. Repeat the previous step on the other rail.
