Remove an adapter

Follow the instructions in this section to remove an adapter.

About this task

Attention
  • Go over Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).

  • If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover, or remove the server from the rack.

Remove an adapter from the system board

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).
    2. Remove both PCIe riser cages or fillers, the chassis air baffle, and the PCIe expansion tray (see Remove a 4U PCIe riser cage, Remove the chassis air baffle, and Remove the 4U PCIe expansion tray).
    3. Disconnect all the cables (including external ones) from the adapter.
  2. Open the retaining latch.
  3. Remove the screw that secures the adapter.
  4. Grasp the adapter by upper corners, and remove it from the system board.

Remove an adapter from the PCIe riser card assembly

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).
    2. Remove both PCIe riser cages or fillers, the chassis air baffle, and the PCIe expansion tray (see Remove a 4U PCIe riser cage, Remove the chassis air baffle, and Remove the 4U PCIe expansion tray).
    3. Disconnect all the cables (including external ones) from the adapters that are installed in the PCIe riser card assembly.
    4. Remove the PCIe riser assembly (see Remove the PCIe riser assembly).
  2. Open the retaining latch on the PCIe riser card assembly.

  3. Remove the screw that secures the adapter to the riser assembly.
  4. Remove the adapter from the PCIe riser card assembly.

After this task is completed

  1. Install a replacement unit or a filler (see Install an adapter).
  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
