Installing an SD card

Use this information to install an SD card.

Before you install an SD card, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. If the compute node is installed in a chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
  3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.
Note
Installing an SD card requires an optional Adapter for SD Media (RAID Adapter for SD Media ).

This component can be installed as an optional device or as a CRU. The installation procedure is the same for the optional device and the CRU.

To install an SD card, complete the following steps.
Graphic illustrating an SD card installation

  1. Remove the cover (see Removing the compute node cover).
  2. If an I/O expansion adapter is installed over the Adapter for SD Media (RAID Adapter for SD Media ), remove it (see Removing an I/O expansion adapter).
  3. Locate the SD card connector on the Adapter for SD Media .
    Important
The SD card must be installed in the correct orientation. If you force the SD card into the connector upside down or backwards, you might damage the connector. See the documentation that comes with the SD card for more information.
  4. Hold the SD card with the arrow pointing toward the SD connector; then, carefully press the SD card into the connector until it clicks into place.
    Note
If you are unable to install an SD card with the Adapter for SD media installed in the compute node, remove the Adapter for SD media from the compute node (see Removing the SD Media Adapter for System x).
After you install an SD card, complete the following steps:
  1. Install the cover onto the compute node (see Installing the compute node cover for instructions).
  2. Install the compute node into the chassis (see Installing a compute node in a chassis for instructions).
