Installing the SD Media Adapter for System x

Use this information to install an optional SD Media Adapter for System x (Adapter for SD Media or SD adapter).

Before you install the Adapter for SD Media, complete the following steps.
Important
If your SD adapter option comes with VMware vSphere ESXi software preloaded, you must make configuration changes to your system UEFI before installing the SD adapter in your compute node. See the documentation that comes with the SD adapter and Using the Setup utility for information and instructions.
  1. Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. If the compute node is installed in a chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
  3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.
  4. Obtain a #1 Phillips screwdriver.

This component can be installed as an optional device or as a CRU. The installation procedure is the same for the optional device and the CRU.

To install the Adapter for SD Media , complete the following steps:
Graphic illustrating the Adapter for SD Media installation

  1. Remove the cover (see Removing the compute node cover).
  2. If an I/O expansion adapter or interposer cable is installed over the Adapter for SD Media location, remove it (see Removing an I/O expansion adapter or Removing an interposer cable).
    Note
If an Adapter for SD Media is installed in the compute node, you can not install an interposer cable.
  3. Locate the Adapter for SD Media connector on the system board (see System-board connectors).
  4. Install the Adapter for SD Media in the notch on the adapter-retention assembly; then, rotate the adapter into its connector on the system board. You might need to press firmly to seat the Adapter for SD Media in the notch on the adapter-retention assembly to align the connectors.
  5. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, tighten the two captive screws to secure the adapter.
    Attention
Make sure that the Adapter for SD Media is secure, but do not overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the adapter.
  6. Install any SD cards in the connectors (see Installing an SD card).
  7. If you removed the I/O expansion adapter, install it (see Installing an I/O expansion adapter).
After you install the Adapter for SD Media, complete the following steps:
  1. Install the cover onto the compute node (see Installing the compute node cover for instructions).
  2. Install the compute node into the chassis (see Installing a compute node in a chassis for instructions).
  3. See SD Media Adapter for System x documentation, which comes with the option, for information about how to configure the Adapter for SD Media.
