Installing a ServeRAID M5215 controller
Use this information to install a ServeRAID M5215 controller.
ServeRAID M5215 controller has an LSI 3108 SAS controller that supports RAID levels 0 and 1 when installed in a Lenovo Flex System x240 M5 compute node. When an optional ServeRAID M5215 controller is installed in the compute node, it overrides the hard disk drive controller that is on the compute node system board.
Before you install the ServeRAID M5215 controller, complete the following steps:
- Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
- If the compute node is installed in an Lenovo Flex System chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
- Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.
To install the ServeRAID M5215 controller, complete the following steps.
Note
- While replacing an adapter, backup or record your RAID configuration information beforehand if possible. See the documentation for your RAID adapter for information and instructions. Documentation for ServeRAID adapters can be downloaded from the Lenovo Support Portal.
- For additional information about installing a ServeRAID M5215 controller, see "ServeRAID M5215 with 2GB Flash Enablement - Lenovo Flex System x240 M5 Installation Guide".
After you install the ServeRAID M5215 controller, complete the following steps:
- Install the cover on the compute node (see Installing the compute node cover for instructions).
- Install the compute node into the chassis (see Installing a compute node in a chassis for instructions).
- Configure the RAID array using the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program (see Using the LSI Logic Configuration Utility).
