Install a cable cartridge to the rack

Follow instructions in this section to install a cable cartridge to the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

Disconnect power
CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
CAUTION
Electrical current from power, telephone, and communication cables is hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard:
  • Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet/source.
  • Connect any equipment that will be attached to this product to properly wired outlets/sources.
  • When possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables.
  • Never turn on any equipment when there is evidence of fire, water, or structural damage.
  • The device might have more than one power cord, to remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure the following tools are available to perform the replacement:
  • Torque screwdriver
  • Phillips #2 bit
  • Torx T25 bit

Procedure

  1. (Optional) Remove the cable cartridge from its package box by gripping both handles firmly.
    CAUTION
    The cable cartridge is heavy; a two-person lift is recommended for safety.
  2. Grip the cable cartridge firmly with both handles and place it on a clean work surface.

  3. Orient the cable cartridge upside-down as shown in the illustration below, using foam or other non-marring materials for support.

  4. Inspect the connectors on the cable cartridge.
    1. Remove one dust cover at a time to visually inspect each connector.
    2. Reinstall the dust cover immediately after inspection.
    3. Repeat above steps for all connectors.
    Attention
    If any connectors are damaged, missing, or contain debris, do not use the cable cartridge.
  5. Turn the cable cartridge right-side up.
  6. Remove the two edge covers.
    1. Loosen the two screws securing the edge cover.
    2. Remove the top cover.
    3. Carefully flip the cable cartridge over so that it lays flat on the work surface.
    4. Remove the bottom cover.
    5. Repeat above steps to remove the other edge cover.

  7. Install the cable cartridges.
    Attention
    Keep the dust covers on during the installation.
    1. Install the cable cartridges according to the sequence shown in the illustration below ( > > > ).

    2. Orient the cartridge so that the up-arrow is at the top. Align the cartridge with the top and bottom guide rails, then slide it into the rack.
    3. Repeat for all other cartridges.

  8. Install the cable cartridge support bracket.
    1. Align the support bracket with four guide pins on the rack and attach the support bracket onto the rack.

    2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds.
    3. Secure the support bracket to the rack by first installing the four corner screws as shown ( > > > ). Then, complete the installation with the remaining fifty screws, following the sequence below.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the compute trays and NVLink switch trays. See Install a compute tray to the rack and Install an NVLink switch tray to the rack.
  2. Insert the power whip into the left side of the power shelf until it clicks.
    Note
    Installing the power whip may require two people to ensure sufficient force is applied for a proper connection.
