Install an M.2 drive to a compute tray

Follow instructions in this section to install an M.2 drive to a compute tray. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Procedure

  1. Install the M.2 drive.
    1. Hold the M.2 drive at an angle of approximately 15 degrees and insert it into the backplane..
    2. Lower the rear end of the M.2 drive.
    3. Tighten the screw to secure the M.2 drive.

  2. Locate the M.2 drive assembly connector on the system board (1).

  3. Install the M.2 drive assembly.
    1. Insert the M.2 drive assembly into the M.2 connector.
    2. Tighten the two screws to secure the M.2 drive assembly.

  4. Install the top cover.
    1. Lower the top cover onto the compute tray and slide it to the front of the compute tray until it snaps into position.
    2. Tighten the four screws to secure the top cover.

After you finish

  1. Ensure that all components have been reassembled correctly and that no tools or loose screws are left inside the compute tray.
  2. Reinstall the compute tray into the rack. See Install a compute tray to the rack.
  3. Reconnect any previously removed cables.
  4. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
