Install the power input board (PIB)

Follow the instructions in this section to install the power input board (PIB).

CAUTION

Hazardous energy present. Voltages with hazardous energy might cause heating when shorted with metal, which might result in spattered metal, burns, or both.

Attention

• Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

• Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding systems.

Procedure

1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the PIB to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, take the PIB out of the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
2. Install the PIB to the power supply unit cage.

   1. Align the screw hole and standoff pins, and install the PIB to the cage.
   2. Tighten the screw to secure it in place.
3. Connect the power and signal cables to the system board, see Cable routing for power input board (PIB).
4. Install the power supply units, see Install a hot-swap power supply unit.
