Remove a fan cage

Follow instructions in this section to remove an fan cage.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding systems.

Procedure

  1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the rear top cover.
  2. Remove the cable routed through the clips on air baffle.
  3. Remove the air baffle. See Remove the air baffle.
  4. Remove the system fans. See Remove a system fan.
  5. Disconnect the cables of system fan 4 and 5 that are integrated into the fan cage. For more details, see Cable routing for system fans.
  6. Remove the fan cage.

    1. Loosen the screws from the fan cage and middle wall.
    2. Lift the fan cage out of chassis.
